The Lightness of being: Rain Series

These images were taken during Covid as part of a series "The lightness of Being/Rain" in the water-stressed town of Gqeberha, Eastern Cape province, South Africa.

The Eastern Cape is a semi-arid, water scarce place. Rain is both reality and concept; a much-anticipated and imaginal abundance. The first rains are a renewal. Ironically, often inadequate to fill the water table (times are hard), the nuances, sound and sight of rain is nevertheless hopeful, enlivening and of itself full of a subtle beauty. It invites possibility.
